Meeting Roddy

By Chris
Well, He's definitely cool.. He's is bigger than I imagined actually - not very tall (right around 6ft) but he's thick. I met him 3 times (at 2 different events). The first event was a Book Signing at Borders Bookstore in East Brunswick New Jersey. And the second two times was at the Chiller Theatre Expo 13 months ago (it's a Horror / Sci-Fi gathering with multiple actors and vendors and all sorts of other things to do for 3 full days).. Well he said he remembered me from somewhere and I told him about the me and my friend being at the Book signing and that I was the one that my Girlfriend called just as I was up to meet him (she has that all so special timing - I call her "Fun Wrecker" every now and again).. Well, each time I have met him he very personable to everyone. He hugs kids, kisses wives, is more than happy to take pictures with everyone and sign all sorts of memorabilia. The book signing he signed things and took pictures for free but at the Chiller Theatre expo there was a charge for everything (that's how the whole event was set up - 5$ for this, 10$ for that and so on for every actor that was there).. So, the first time I met him I was with a good friend (and he's not a huge Roddy fan for some strange reason : ) and it seemed he was as excited as I was about the whole meeting. After waiting for him to arrive for an hour he finally showed up - his music was played in the store and everyone seemed to be excited. Then he disappeared into a room in the back of the store (I guess he needed to eat or whatever) - so another 1/2 hour goes by and he finally comes out with his entourage and sits at a table and gets ready to Meet/Greet & Sign everything in sight! Well, it took us about 45 minutes to actually get up to the table, and I have to admit I was a little nervous, but he shook hands with us and even hugged us as he looked at the memorabilia I brought with me, he then signed all of it and stopped on one piece in particular. I have a flyer from the 70's when he was w/Portland's Wrestling Fed (I cannot remember the name right now) with him headlining the show. He looked at it and looked at me and said "My God I'm Old! Not doing me any favors with this old flyer...." Then he laughed and showed it to his guys and signed it and took a few pictures with me and my friend and then my phone rang. "My God! Who the hell is this?" I wondered.. Well, it was "The Fun-Wrecker"! "What are you doing?" she asks me and I almost bite her head off and say "I'm w/Roddy right now, I'll call you back!" CLICK! Said goodbye to Hot Rod and we took off to drive back to Rhode Island...

The Chiller Theatre Expo was allot of fun too but it didn't equal the excitement of meeting him for the first time.. Well, needless to say, I met him twice at this expo and took more pictures and had him sign a huge British "They Live" poster that I have (it's a 7/11 poster from England I believe).. I also met Peter Jason (who was also in they live - he ran the Homeless camp) and he also signed the poster (was just a great experience) - we actually sat with Peter Jason both days we were there and spoke to him for like 40 minutes each time.. A very nice man.. Probably the nicest guy there (Tony Todd, John Saxon and Brad Douriff were very nice to us too)..
